AUSTIN (Dallas Morning News) - Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday he would support sending U.S. troops into Mexico to fight the drug war.
The Republican has long urged beefed-up security on the American side of the violence-plagued border, but he said stronger tactics are needed to defeat the drug cartels.
"You have a situation on the border where American citizens are being killed, and you didn't see that back when George Bush was the governor," Perry said in an interview with MSNBC.
Asked whether the U.S. should consider deploying troops inside Mexico, Perry said the federal government should consider all options "including the military."

Big Brother will be inspecting your trash
Beginning next year, the city of Cleveland will distribute new garbage and recycling bins embedded with a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that will monitor how often the bins are hauled to the curb. If you don't put your recycling bin out often enough, a "trash supervisor" will go through your refuse to see if you've been throwing recyclables out with the garbage. If you have, you'll be fined.

Millions of stimulus dollars spent on signs
(ABC) - As the midterm election season approaches, new road signs are popping up everywhere – millions of dollars worth of signs touting "The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act" and reminding passers-by that the program is "Putting America Back to Work."
On the road leading to Dulles Airport outside Washington, DC there's a 10' x 11' road sign touting a runway improvement project funded by the federal stimulus. The project cost nearly $15 million and has created 17 jobs, according to recovery.gov.
However, there's another number that caught the eye of ABC News: $10,000. That's how much money the Washington Airports Authority tells ABC News it spent to make and install the sign – a single sign – announcing that the project is "Funded by The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act" and is "Putting America Back to Work." The money for the sign was taken out of the budget for the runway improvement project.

Feds consider banning peanuts on planes
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Federal regulators are considering a snack attack on the nation's airlines that would restrict or even completely ban serving peanuts on commercial flights.
Advocates say the move would ease fears and potential harm to an estimated 1.8 million Americans who suffer from peanut allergies. Peanut farmers and food packagers, however, see it as overreaching and unfair to their legume.

Ladies' night not all right, state says
(Minneapolis Star-Tribune) - It's a bastion of bar culture: "Ladies' Night," staged to attract female customers by cutting their drink prices and cover charges.
It's also illegal gender discrimination, according to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.
The department charged this week that by having ladies' nights, five Twin Cities establishments denied men the right to "full and equal enjoyment" of their businesses.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A college fraternity inspired by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee has banned members around the country from wearing Confederate uniforms to "Old South" parties and parades after years of complaints that the tradition was racially insensitive.
